Who is our customer?
Şekerbank is the contracting party. Şekerbank is a leading rural and agricultural bank in Turkey, despite its limited market share (less than 1% of sector assets, loans, and deposits). Sustainability is a foundational commitment for the Bank, since it was founded 70 years ago as a social and environmental bank, serving a unique niche among Türkiye’s private-capital deposit banks: SMEs and agricultural banking. The Bank promotes financial inclusion for the underserved areas in the country (72% of branches are located outside major metropolis).
What is our funding objective?
Sekerbank desires to strengthen its existing ESMS, which consists of the development and implementation of an Environmental and Social (E&S) risk framework that will be integrated into the overall business risk appraisal and lending decisions of the bank. It will also align with international best practices for E&S risk and opportunity management. The ESMS strengthening entails upgrading the existing ESMS, including policies, procedures, tools, templates, etc.
Why do we fund this investment?
A key element of FMO’s strategy for 2030 is being a change agent on Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) topics. Through active support to our customers on ESG, especially on strengthening their capacity, together to deliver responsible impact in the societies and the local communities where they operate
