Who is our customer
JCM Salima UK Ltd is a FMO client and a company incorporated in the U.K. it is 75% owner of JCM Matswani Solar Corp Ltd, a Malawi Special Purpose Vehicle established for the development of a 60 MWac solar PV plant located in the Salima district of Malawi. Infraco Africa Ltd owns the remaining 25% of the Project Company. The project was developed by InfraCo Africa, JCM Power and Matswani Capital.
What is our funding objective?
The objective of this project is to assess how local ownership of renewable energy projects can be catalyzed to serve as a mechanism for having a long-lasting sustainable impact in the host country and contribute to a responsible exit for DFIs. The consultant for this project will collect best practices from emerging markets and identify how the use of e.g trusts but also other mechanisms contribute to the goal of localizing ownership in the RE sector.
Why do we fund this investment?
By partnering with JCM Power on this important topic, FMO and JCM take a leading role in identifying opportunities for deeper social impact and directly benefitting local communities. Case study for this is Malawi, a LDC with a significant energy shortage. This project will serve as input for existing and future RE projects of JCM, FMO but also for other developers and (impact) investors.
