Who is our customer
Microinvest is one of the largest microfinance companies in the Republic of Moldova. The institution provides its services through 14 branches and 1/3 of its portfolio consists of loans to the agricultural sector. FMO provided its first loan to Microinvest in 2008.
What is our funding objective?
FMO provided long-term local currency finance to Microinvest for the equivalent of EUR 3 mln. By doing so, FMO facilitates access to local currency finance for micro entrepreneurs, mainly in the agricultural sector. By providing finance to micro clients, Microinvest promotes economic growth amongst the low-income population.
Why do we fund this investment?
By providing long-term finance to an institution operating in Moldova, FMO enables Microinvest to continue promoting access to finance for micro entrepreneurs. With its focus on micro clients in the agricultural sector, Microinvest promotes inclusive finance.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
The project has been categorised as Category C in accordance with FMO’s Sustainability Policy. The Project’s activities are deemed to have minimal or no adverse environmental and social risks and/or impacts. As part of the Project, Microinvest will be required to apply the EDFI Exclusion List and Moldova E&S laws and regulations.
