Who is our customer
Stichting Het Wereld Natuur Fonds-Nederland (“WWF-NL”).
What is our funding objective?
The objective will be to promote green technologies for industrial wastewater treatment and identify innovative investment options including private sector investment. Aim is to improve the treatment of industrial wastewater and reduce the discharge of pollutants in the Ayeyarawady river basin – by far the most important river in the country.
Why do we fund this investment?
The partnership with WWF-NL in this project will enable NLB FMO NL Business to create a pipeline of projects in Myanmar for potential Dutch industrial wastewater treatment exporters. This project could also result in NLB playing a catalytic role to setting up the Greenlines facility (SME financing for green technology) of the FI department of FMO.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
Preliminary E&S categorization based on expected E&S risks/impacts and country/regional context is B+. The risks for this project are considered limited due to the relatively small-scale nature of the wastewater treatment plants , with high positive environmental outcomes. The IFC Performance Standards for this project are: PS 1 (assessment & management), PS 2 (labor conditions), PS 3 (pollution and resource management), PS 4 (community health & safety) and possible PS 5 (land acquisition). PS 6-8 are not expected to be triggered. Main attention points: odour nuisance, sludge treatment and disposal.
