In its Regional Outlook report, the IMF predicts that the Asian-Pacific economy is set to grow by 5.5% in 2018, accounting for almost two-thirds of total global GDP growth, although it also sees continuing risks to economic growth, mainly protectionist trade policies and increased geopolitical tensions. Longer-term challenges for the region also include dealing with an aging population and decreased productivity. While Asia is at the forefront of the digital revolution and the economic benefits it brings, policy in the region still must encourage further innovation, the IMF says.
