European development finance Institutions have invested €6.17 billion in climate finance projects between 2009 and 2015 to help the private sector become an important player in efforts to combat climate change. Initiatives include investment in wind, solar, biogas, geothermal and energy efficiency projects in developing countries, often in co-operation with the EU and regional partners. Projects include Latin America’s first large-scale solar generation facility in Peru, Africa’s largest wind farm in Kenya, and a heat waste recovery plant in Côte d’Ivoire.
