April 15, 2014

The participants of the Future of Banking Acadamy program

From April 7-11 the inaugural Future of Banking Academy program was held at the Amsterdam Institute of Finance in Amsterdam. The Future of Banking Academy is an invitation-only program co-created by FMO and Amsterdam Institute of Finance for FMO’s Financial Institutions clients. Attending the program were 24 senior executives from 20 financial institutions around the world coming from emerging market countries such as Cambodia, Mongolia, Nigeria and Paraguay. During the course of the week, participants have experienced a transformative leadership journey to address the issues and dilemmas facing their institutions and clients. Topics including emerging risks in emerging markets, sustainability, and financial innovation were discussed in the context of leadership and strategy that is needed for the future.

This initiative aims to contribute to a changing culture in the financial services sector putting clients first, include sustainability and restore trust in the financial sector as a whole.

Participants shared common business challenges and were able to put things in new perspectives and share ideas on how to create solutions and opportunities. Not only did the Academy provide ‘a unique opportunity to network and share best practices,’ it ‘expanded and reshaped my horizons and has changed the way I think about finance and the world,’ according to some of the participants.

As a result of this inspiring week, FMO and AIF plan to continue the Future of Banking Academy into the future and possibly expand participation beyond FMO clients. The week was closed by the participants at the Amsterdam Stock Exchange were they had the honor of sounding the opening bell.
