Navigant Consulting says it has created the first standardised approach to calculating carbon emissions resulting from renewable heating and cooling technologies. While renewable technologies help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions involved in meeting heating and cooling demands, Navigant says they are not subject to well-defined and widely accepted carbon accounting rules in the same way as renewable electricity generation. Renewable Heating and Cooling for Industrial Applications: Guidance for Carbon Accounting, a report commissioned from the consultancy by the Renewable Thermal Collaborative and funded by confectionery group Mars, examines the impact of six renewable thermal energy sources and offers specific methodology recommendations.
