Companies make social costs visible

A coalition of thirteen large Dutch companies go hand in hand with civil society organisations to show their impact on nature and the wellbeing of people. They have agreed on this in a Green Deal with the Dutch Central Government.

The Green Deal ' collaboration on transparency of natural and social capital ' is an initiative of the IUCN NL, CSR Netherlands and True Price. They work together with the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The signing took place on Thursday during the Leaders for Nature Forum, an annual sustainability event for companies. The companies Akzo Nobel, ARCADIS, BAM, Deloitte, DSM, EY, FMO, Interface, Heijmans, PwC and KPMG, Philips and Thermaflex will participate. Also the Dutch Professional Association of Accountants (NBA) and the Association of investors for sustainable development (VBDO) have signed the Green Deal.

The purpose of the Green Deal is that companies show the social costs in their value chain, express these in hard currency and submit a report in their annual reports. By making the impact of their business operations on man and nature visible, it creates a better picture of the performance of the company. This transparency is an important step towards a sustainable, green economy that has an eye for the wellbeing of people. In addition, it contributes to the implementation of the Natural Capital program from the Government.

Action Programme The parties agree that they perform an action program in 2014 and 2015 in which knowledge sharing and knowledge development on transparency of natural and social capital.
