World must limit global warming to 1.5ºC by 2030: climate change panel

October 8, 2018

The latest report issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change forecasts dire consequences for the world if the challenges posed by global warming are not tackled immediately. The report compiled by 91 authors and editors from 40 countries who reviewed more than 6,000 studies, predicts that if average temperatures rise by 2°C above pre-industrial levels, all coral reefs will die off, the Arctic Ocean will be ice-free during summers, and a vast range of species will face extinction as their habitats disappear. Human health and wellbeing risk being damaged by persistent heatwaves, more violent and unpredictable weather phenomena and rising sea levels.
