The green economy is now worth $4 trillion, representing 6% of the market capitalisation of companies listed worldwide, according to financial benchmark provider FTSE Russell. In a report, Investing in the Global Green Economy: Busting Common Myths, the London Stock Exchange subsidiary argues that the green economy represents a significant investment opportunity, with its market capitalisation continuing to grow, while the overall share of fossil fuel businesses shrinks.
FTSE Russell says companies it identifies as green have outperformed related broader benchmarks in recent years, while the green economy exhibits great diversity across industry classification sectors.
