The World Economic Forum’s annual Africa Competitiveness report highlights policy action that can encourage economic growth on the continent. Following a decade of steady growth, expansion has begun to stall and unemployment is increasing along with the migration of a young, fast-growing population to cities, where half the continent’s population will live by 2035. As a result, the report focuses on policy recommendations to boost job creation in urban areas, with improving the business environment, developing the manufacturing sector and raising living standards all high priorities.
