"The great thing of ICT is that it is constantly evolving, no matter the organization."
I was indirectly informed of the Application Manager vacancy at FMO. After the selection interviews, I had a good idea of the ICT domain within FMO, the possibilities that were available to me, and of my future colleagues (all of whom are driven ICT professionals with their own field of expertise!) It was at FMO that I found what I was looking for in the next step of my career.
The great thing of ICT is that it is constantly evolving, no matter the organization. For me, the diversity of enthusiastic colleagues, inquisitive internal customers and the work atmosphere is making the difference at FMO. It is always clear what is expected of you; if you meet the expectations, you will get the appreciation of the team and management.
As a team, we give each other feedback on the things that are going well and on those things that we can do better. I think the atmosphere in the team is balanced, which promotes giving feedback and 'mutual support' to each other. You learn from that as a person and as a team.
Learning on the job is crucial in a rapidly changing environment such as ICT.
Learning on the job is crucial in a rapidly changing environment such as ICT. What really helps is that we have our an internal learning platform called the FMO Academy, which you can use to find different courses that will help you grow as a professional and as a person. For example, I recently followed a course to become a project manager that I quite enjoyed.
You don't have to grow vertically to have a lot of fun in your work and to make substantive personal progress. It's nice to sit in a place, without having a single moment where you think 'I'm bored, I know this now'.
A project from last year that I look back on with great pleasure is the "II Project" in which FMO worked together with an external party. For this, a solution had to be set up to be able to exchange files between two parties, while allowing both parties to be aware of each other’s processing of these files.
After making an inventory of the wishes of both, I set up a design in a Microsoft Teams environment that would meet all wishes. When setting up this solution, I explained the possibilities of Microsoft Teams and demonstrated them to the end users involved. As a result, this solution has been successfully and satisfactorily put into use and can be independently adapted and managed by these end users. Completing a project like this always makes me feel happy and accomplished.
