Who is our customer
MicroInvest (MI) is a microfinance company providing competitive financial products to MSMEs (sole proprietors, agricultural individual enterprises, cooperatives, Savings and Credit Associations (SCAs), and informal rural groups), all of which fall beyond the scope of traditional banking due to lack of collateral, insufficient credit track record and perceived high credit risk.
What is our funding objective?
Since 2013, growth at MI has flattened out, the arrears started to increase, and operational profitability suffered. Operational issues the company is facing have been identified in the areas of lending productivity, credit risk and staff management. This project focuses on improvements in these areas of operations.
Why do we fund this investment?
The strategy of MI fits well with FMO’s aim to enhance inclusive development and economic growth. The company serves customers neglected by traditional banks in urban and rural areas and increasingly focuses on the agro sector (27%), thus contributing to the country’s economic and social development. By providing this CD-funding, FMO supports MI to improve its operational performance which will enable the company to serve its customers in a more sustainable and enhanced manner.
