Who is our customer
The Small Enterprise Foundation (SEF) is an indigenous South African not-for profit microfinance institution working towards the eradication of poverty by providing credit and savings services, fostering sustainable income generation, job creation and social empowerment. SEF’s clients are majority (99%) female, with typical enterprises including fruit and vegetable sellers, catering and small manufacturing businesses.
What is our funding objective?
This project aims to strengthen SEF’s internal capacity to increase its impact through its Larger Loan Program. At the same time, it directly supports the growth of small businesses run by female entrepreneurs, by strengthening SEF’s non-financial services offering.
Why do we fund this investment?
This project contributes to FMO’s strategic ambitions: SDG 5, Gender Equality and SDG 10, Reducing Inequalities. SEF’s inclusive focus is in line with FMO’s priorities to provide financial services and business support to women living in rural areas.
