Who is our customer
I&M Bank is wholly owned subsidiary of I&M Holdings Limited, a publicly quoted company at the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE). The bank started in 1974 and evolved from a community financial institution to a publicly listed major regional commercial bank offering a full range of corporate, SME and retail banking services.
What is our funding objective?
FMO has provided a 5-year USD 40mln loan to strengthen I&M’s funding base with long-term USD financing.
Why do we fund this investment?
I&M is a strong and well-reputed Tier 2 bank in Kenya and a long-standing client of FMO. FMO is supporting I&M Bank to fund their SME and corporate customers, which are a strong engine in Kenya’s economy.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
Environmental & social risk Category FI-A, based on the exposure I&M Bank has to client transactions that are considered project finance. The projects financed in this segment are mainly related to manufacturing, construction and real estate property development. The activities in these sectors can potentially result in negative environmental and social impacts. I&M Bank has in place an environmental & social management system to manage these impacts. In addition, the FMO transaction includes an Environmental and Social Action Plan with the objective to enhance the bank’s environmental & social risk management capacity and its client engagement on environmental & social impacts.
