Your role
We are looking for an exceptional person willing to work with us and be our team member on a temporary contract for 1 year. As an Environmental & Social Senior Associate, you will play a pivotal role in our team. You will report to the Manager Environmental & Social Agribusiness, Food & Water. Your responsibilities include the following impactful tasks:
Risk Assessment & Analysis
- Conduct human rights and contextual risk assessments in the countries in which we operate combined with Agribusiness, Food & Water client portfolio to determine level of risk for FMO.
- Analyse and monitor Environmental & Social issues and risks in relevant regions and sectors.
- Understanding and assessing Environmental & Social risk appetite of clients based on the contextual risks and their portfolio of investments.
Transaction Support & Portfolio Management
- Research Environmental & Social performance of selected Agribusiness, Food & Water customers.
- Track and analyse the Agribusiness, Food & Water portfolio Environmental & Social performance, preparing quarterly reports.
- Provide Environmental & Social input for Client Credit Reviews.
- Support with monitoring transactions, identifying relevant evidence for Environmental & Social related actions.
Environmental & Social Technical Assistance Coordination
- Identify potential Technical Assistance opportunities in collaboration with specialists, Environmental & Social Officers and investment staff.
- Prepare financial proposals, contracts and Terms of References for consultant engagement.
- Facilitate Technical Assistance services delivery as a liaison between FMO, consultants, and clients.
Delivering on Organizational Priorities
- Deal with administrative tasks for reporting, Environmental, Social & Governance tracking, and sustainability information.
- Improve processes and structures for team efficiency and client value.
- Support on team/department meetings delivering agenda and following up on overall tasks.
- Respond to queries and support requests from various FMO units.
- Manage and maintain team knowledge, documents, and tools.
- Help the Manager in delivering operational and strategic priorities.
Our offer
- A one-year contract to replace a sick leave in the team, with two months’ probation.
- Gross yearly salary of between EUR 65K-75K on a 40-hour basis (including holiday allowance and 13th month), depending on seniority, years of experience and background (FMO salary scale 9).

The ESG+ department consist of 5 teams:
- Agribusiness, Food & Water E&S;
- Energy E&S,
- Financial Institutions and Corporate Governance E&S.
- Private Equity E&S
- Sustainability Integration standards.
Through these 5 teams, ESG+ delivers effective impact management across the Environmental Social Governance risk, and return spectrum, based on harmonized impact concepts and metrics. This role will fall to the dedicated Environmental & Social Agribusiness, Food & Water Team. The team consists of 10 (including this position) environmental and social professionals with different environmental and social expertise, and a manager.
The Environmental and Social Officers work hand in hand with our investment staff and our clients to ensure that environmental, social, and human rights impact and risks are being considered throughout the investment process.
Your background
- Master’s degree in a relevant social and/or environmental science.
- A minimum of five years of relevant working experience in environmental, social and/or human rights assessment and management, preferably in a private sector environment and/or emerging market context.
- At least one year work experience in the field of sustainable finance and/or development finance and/or impact investment.
- Proficiency in Excel for data analysis and trend identification.
- Solid understanding of IFC PS is preferred.

- Effective at building relationships and fostering a positive work environment, combined with a good sense of humour.
- Excellent English communication (both written and verbal).
- Team player with strong multitasking abilities.
