Your role

The Analyst will monitor the progress and performance of renewable energy projects in Latin America and the Caribbean. They will research country and market trends, conduct financial analysis, and support client relationships. Also, there can be limited support on new transactions, primarily for existing clients. This role as an Analyst demands a keen interest in building financial analytical skills and understanding risks. It also requires knowledge of financial markets, awareness of economic trends, and strong communication and writing skills.

 Specific tasks include:

  • Analyse existing clients' operational and financial reports and data, such as financial performance and compliance with covenants.
  • Write reports and handle internal processes to monitor existing clients' performance through annual reviews, change requests, and waivers.).
  • Prepared market and financial analyses of clients, sectors, and countries.
  • Support the Portfolio officers in the team in managing relationships with these clients on an operational working level.
  • Participating in client visits when required.
  • Supporting the business development team in approving repeat transactions with existing clients.
  • Collaboration with teams: Works closely with colleagues in a multidisciplinary deal team setting (For example Environmental & Social Officers, Corporate Governance Officers, Know Your Customer Administrators, etc.).
  • Assisting the Portfolio officer in portfolio management tasks and investment officers in transaction tasks.
  • Contributing to departmental projects as requested.

Your team

FMO’s Energy department is a front-runner in FMO’s goal to promote the transition in emerging markets to a low-carbon system and safeguard energy security. The department focuses on senior debt and mezzanine finance for renewable energy, off-grid projects, and transmission and distribution. It maintains close relations with the (energy) colleagues from the Private Equity department. The total Energy portfolio amounts to approximately EUR 2.9 billion, with annual new commitments amounting to around EUR 500 million. The department comprises of more than 50 professionals, including 18 nationalities, divided over 4 regional teams.

The Latin America & Caribbean Energy team comprises 12 professionals reporting to one manager. It works across two sub-teams: a Business Development group focusing on new business in the region and a Portfolio Management group responsible for managing the existing clients in the region. The team is supported by a team of insurance, compliance, environmental, and social officers.

Your background

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in economics, finance, business administration or engineering.
  • 0-3 years of relevant working experience in financial analysis, portfolio analysis, project finance, or corporate finance.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal. At least an intermediate/conversational level of Spanish is required. 
  • Working experience in an international environment and/or emerging markets is a plus.
