Your role

As a (Credit) Risk Modeler you will manage and develop FMO's credit risk management framework and models for both short and long-term, acting as a specialist and thought leader. You will collaborate with the Credit team and Front Office FMO's model framework is being professionalized, requiring you to refine methodologies and documentation in line with policy and standards. Managed models include customer risk ratings, LGD, RAROC, IFRS9 provisioning, and back testing of provisions. FMO focuses on loans and investments in energy, financial institutions, and agribusiness, aiming to increase impact through new markets, products, and financial structures, often involving commercial and public investors. You will be involved in developing credit risk frameworks for new programs and addressing emerging risks, such as climate risk.

Your main responsibilities are:

  • Proactively assess and implement improvements to FMO's credit risk management framework, including internal controls and 2nd line challenger role;
  • Oversee the credit risk model development cycle, such as (re-)calibration, back-testing, model reviews, development, and successful completion of validations;
  • Ensure credit risk models comply with regulations (CRR/CRD, EBA, WFT, etc.) and IFRS9;
  • Ensure proper model implementation and user training;
  • Contribute to FMO’s policy landscape in related domains such as credit and concentration risk;
  • Communicate and defend methodologies with FMO's auditor and DNB; monitor and report on credit risk appetite;
  • Lead or participate in multi-stakeholder projects, identify emerging issues, and conduct specialist risk assessments;
  • Offer risk management perspective on new business initiatives and provide guidance on credit risk processes and awareness;
  • Coach and support colleagues within the FRM team, acting as a sounding board for their concerns.

Our offer

We offer a competitive gross annual compensation of EUR 70K – 90K per year on full time basis, including holiday allowance, depending on your experience. We also offer a range of other well-being benefits, including 31 holidays per year and the opportunity to work remotely abroad for 60 days per year, an annual personal development budget of up to EUR 2,700 as well as a pension plan. Our flexible work arrangement allows you to work both in the office and from home.

Your team

The FMO Financial Risk Management (FRM) team, comprising 11 dedicated professionals, aims to ensure long-term financial viability while accelerating the bank's strategic objectives. We focus on adhering to risk appetite and fostering innovative business initiatives. Our responsibilities span various risk types and processes, such as credit, interest rate, currency, equity, business model, and capital and liquidity adequacy. The team continually evolves to align with FMO's strategy and enhance professionalism. We are seeking a team member with expertise in credit risk modeling for financial institutions. Experience in managing other risk types alongside credit risk is a plus.

Your background

You also have:

  • Advanced degree in Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, Quantitative Finance, Statistics or related field;
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, including regulatory knowledge (CRR/CRD, EBA and EU Banking guidelines) and IFRS9 expertise;
  • Strong technical skills:
    • programming languages such as python or R;
    • data architecture knowledge;
    • data analysis and statistics;
    • problem-solving abilities;
  • Familiarity with model orchestration and managing data pipelines;
  • Pragmatic, can-do mentality with a focus on solution-oriented approaches;
  • Fluent in English;
  • FRM/CFA certification preferred.
