Your role

The activities of the Investment Officer will be across the geographies in ECA MENA (Eastern Europe and Central Asia/Middle East and North Africa) with a focus on MENA. You will report to the regional manager for FI ECA MENA. As an Investment Officer, you will find and structure deals, then document new facilities, including Nasira (our Risk Sharing Product). You will regularly manage client portfolios and cover different countries in ECA MENA while coaching associates and portfolio analysts. Engaging with product teams is important for example syndications and the Nasira team to offer the best solution to the client.

In summary, as Investment Officer within FMO you will take the lead in:

  1. Structuring and executing debt and Nasira transactions that fit the FI strategy.
  2. Contributing to business development/origination activities amongst others in new countries, drafting key account plans and/or country strategies.
  3. Work with Environmental and Social Officers (ESOs) and specialists to plan and complete transactions under the Manager's guidance.
  4. Portfolio Management: Taking overall responsibility for quality and timelines of all internal documents related to the designated portfolio (for example reviews, change and waiver requests, disbursements, and IRC memos).
  5. Build strong relationships with FI clients and prospects. Understand their business, market, environment, risks, and challenges through regular visits or calls.
  6. Taking the lead in negotiation/contracting processes of debt transactions jointly with the legal team.
  7. Provide input and proactive feedback to IOs, Associates, and Portfolio Analysts on credit reviews. Guide them on change requests, disbursement memos, and sections of investment proposals (CIP/FP). This supports team development effectively.

The Financial Institutions (FI) Department seeks to be the top partner for Financial Institutions that actively achieve selected Sustainable Development Goals. We help them promote financial inclusion and act as Agents of Change. We offer financing, knowledge and network to support these clients. Also, we catalyze private capital thereby further scaling up its impact.

The FI department has four regional teams: Africa, Asia, ECA­MENA, and LAC (Latin America and the Carribean). Over 60 highly motivated people work in this department.

FI ECA MENA has a strong relationship network across the region and a solid market position. Our team is in charge of a portfolio of around 35­40 clients and consists of 11 professionals. Our team supports FMO's goals by offering debt facilities that improve Climate Action and Reduce Inequalities. We also attract 3rd­party funds, manage sector wide initiatives, and boost client performance with targeted Technical Assistance support.

Your background

  • Master’s degree in Economic, Business Administration or comparable studies.
  • Over 6 years working/banking experience as Investment Officer with a focus on Financial Institutions.
  • Experience in emerging markets is a big plus. Also, employers highly value experience and a network in the MENA region.
  • Proven track record in sourcing, structuring, designing and documenting finance products.
  • Client relationship management experience.

Personal skills

  • Proven ability to find new business independently and build trust based relationships with clients.
  • Arabic and French language skills are strongly preferred besides excellent conversational and writing skills in English
  • Lead by example. Show strong team skills and help the team succeed. Create a positive, constructive, and collaborative work environment.
